After arriving at what is now Alberta the force of three hundred men soon quelled the

whiskey trade and established posts across the west.

 

 

                 

 

          Louis Riel & Gabriel Dumont

   When the Riel Rebellion broke out in 1885, Under the leadership of Louis Riel and his lieutenant Gabriel Dumont, the NWMP assisted the militia in putting a stop to the Metis revolt

 

 

in 1895 the force moved north to the Yukon to bring law and order to the goldrush

The Mounted Police have been the subject of a number of paintings and drawings
